Man-go

A sweet, flushed mango becomes a portrait of being blindly in love.

The idea

A mango with a crush, and very little perspective. In Mandarin, 芒 (máng) in 芒果, “mango,” sounds like 盲 (máng), “blind.” That homophone becomes a portrait of being blinded by love: sweet, flushed and unable to see clearly. The Chinese wordplay matters to the image. The joke works through language, while the blank eyes and red face carry the feeling.
